Send Some Love

This past week I felt called to send two people some love. One of my friends had done something nice and I needed to say thank you, the other was a colleague who just achieved a promotion that she had worked hard towards. My gratitude and pride were bigger than a text message or email could communicate. So I pulled out some fun note cards (I use these) and sent each of these individuals a handwritten note. Nothing big or flowery. Probably no longer than a text that I would have sent.

It felt weird finding stamps and putting something in the mailbox. I can't tell you the last time that I did that.

Very shortly after I sent them, I received messages from both of them gushing about how thankful they are and how thoughtful the card was. Writing those notes wasn’t a big deal to me at the moment but receiving these text messages made me realize that doing something kind for another person can be a larger gift to yourself. The message I received from each of them made me smile and thankful to have each of them as friends.

Ironically enough, this week is Universal Letter Writing Week. Carve out 5 minutes, find paper and a pen, and write someone a letter. It doesn't need to be long or complicated. Tell someone how you feel, or the impact that they've had on you, or simply say thank you. This simple gesture for another could be a huge gift back to you.
