Report Card

Recently I was given a collection of special items from my childhood. My parents had redesigned their closets and had found baby books, report cards, and other items from my young life. As I dove into some old book reports and some very embarrassing pictures, I came across my kindergarten report card.

Alyssa is capable of good work when she puts her mind to it.
Please continue to stress the importance of good work habits.

It's good to know that nothing has changed since this time! I have consistently been someone who is easily distracted. I tend to focus on the next shiny thing.

Today's blog is more of a confessional than it really is offering any guidance. The lesson that I take away from all of this is to acknowledge who I am. Through reading this piece, and recognizing how these attitudes and behaviors show up in my current life, it reinforces that there are some pieces of myself that won't change. Rather than fighting against them perhaps I should embrace them. These imperfections make me who I am.

I find that I focus too often on my weaknesses or the opportunity for failure. Rather than acknowledging all of the successes, I hold onto the one criticism.

It is challenge then is for both of us. Recognizing that both our strengths and these imperfections are would make us our unique self- that we are once we spend less time focusing on all of the things that we have done wrong, it opens up an opportunity for us to go out into the world and do the thing.

I guess I do have guidance for today then. List out all of your strengths and imperfections and see the beauty in both of them. Realize the gift that is all aspects of yourself and give that gift to the world!

Apparently I struggled with hand-eye coordination also…
